How long have you been involved with Special Olympics?
20 years
How has your life changed since getting involved with Special Olympics?
SO has given many opportunities to grow not only as a coach, but as a parent. I am proud of the impact I have had on the lives of our athletes through sport.
How would you describe Special Olympics to someone who is thinking becoming and athlete or volunteer?
Great organization where your involvement can make a difference to those who live life with ID.
What is your goal for Special Olympics Canada Summer Games Medicine Hat 2026?
To prepare our athletes and coaches from a health perspective; for them to be aware of all of the challenges of a multi sport games, taking into consideration environmental elements, schedules, team dynamics etc
What is your proudest moment with Special Olympics?
My proudest moment was when my daughter was named for the first time to Team Canada and won the first gold medal for speed skating at those games.
What does being a part of a team mean to you?
There is so much pride in being part of a Team and for us to represent BC. Proud of the achievements and the standards that SOBC sets for both our athletes and coaches which sets the stage for success.
How do you prepare mentally and/or physically for a big competition?
I love games; I think I prepare just knowing that games will be an exciting and exhausting week so I plan for little sleep but take the opportunities that arise to rest when I can. I feel strongly about make sure everyone has an amazing games experience and try to bring that energy.
