When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?
I got involved in Special Olympics around age 12/13 I believe as I struggled in regular peer sports and making friends.
Will this be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, what other National Games did you compete in, and in what sports?
No...I have been to Nationals for Bowling/Curling/Rhythmic Gymnastics. And I attended the World Summer Games in 2007 for Rhythmic Gymnastics. But this is my first time for Swimming.
What were your results in the 2025 Special Olympics BC Summer Games? How did you feel about your performance?
I came home with a Silver and a Gold. I felt very proud as I had worked hard to get there and earned a surprise gold metal in a swim race I have always struggled in. So that felt amazing to accomplish that.
What does being part of Special Olympics Team BC 2026 mean to you?
Getting to have fun and enjoy myself and be at my best.
What is your goal for these National Games?
My goal is to try my best and see where it takes me.
What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?
Getting to attend the 2007 Special Olympics Summer World Games in Shanghai China for Rhythmic Gymnastics. That was an amazing experience.
What do you like most about the sport you will compete in at National Games?
Watching myself improve little by little and seeing the hard work pay off when I race.
What would you say about Special Olympics to encourage someone to get involved?
That it is a fantastic place to meet and make new friends and overall have fun. That you can just choose to enjoy a sport for fun if you aren't ready to compete in one yet.
Please tell us a little bit more about yourself! What else would you like people to know about you?
Both my husband and son are also Special Olympics athletes. I also work full time as a Manager of a School Age Before and After School childcare center.
